Mass generation for gauge fields in the Salam - Weinberg theory without Higgs
We consider the Salam-Weinberg theory by introducing tensor gauge fields. When these fields are coupled in a topological way with the vector ones, the resulting system constitutes an alternative mechanism of mass generation for vector fields without the presence of Higgs bosons. We show that these masses are in agreement with the ones obtained by means of the spontaneous symmetry breaking. 1 1....
متن کاملDynamics of spontaneous symmetry breaking in the Weinberg-Salam theory
Solving for p,p' gives (2) The need for fundamental scalar fields in the theory of weak and electromagnetic forces' is a serious flaw. Aside from the subjective esthetic argument, there exists a real difficulty connected with the quadratic mass divergences which always accompany scalar fields. ' These divergences violate a concept of naturalness which requires the observable properties of a the...
متن کاملDynamics of Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking * in the Weinberg Salam Theory
We argue that the existence of fundamental scalar fields constitutes a serious flaw of the Weinberg Salam theory. A possible scheme without such fields is described. The symmetry breaking is induced by a new strongly interacting sector whose natural scale is of the order of a few TeV. (Submitted to Phys. Rev.) -t Permanent address after Sept. 1, 1978, Dept. of Physics, Stanford University. *Wor...
متن کاملMonopoles in Weinberg-Salam Model
We present a new type of spherically symmetric monopole and dyon solutions with the magnetic charge 4π/e in the standard Weinberg-Salam model. The monopole (and dyon) could be interpreted as a non-trivial hybrid between the abelian Dirac monopole and non-abelian ’t Hooft-Polyakov monopole (with an electric charge). We discuss the possible physical implications of the electroweak dyon. Typeset u...
متن کاملDyons and S-duality in N=4 Supersymmetric Gauge Theory
We analyze the spectrum of dyons in N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory with gauge group SU (3) spontaneously broken down to U (1) × U (1). The Higgs fields select a natural basis of simple roots. Acting with S-duality on the W-boson states corresponding to simple roots leads to an orbit of BPS dyon states that are magnetically charged with respect to one of the U (1)'s. The corresponding mo...
